7. Contract description: The overall objective of the project is to build
the capacity of the Judicial Institute of Jordan (JIJ) — which is under
the umbrella of the Ministry of Justice — and the National Centre for
Human Rights by supporting the development and implementation of national
policies, strategies and legislation in line with the relevant human
rights international instruments and standards. This gradually will:
— strengthen the professional ability of judges in the area of human
rights,
— strengthen the capacity of the National Centre for Human Rights to
fulfil its mandate,
— provide assistance for the incorporation of international human rights
treaties and standards in to Jordanian legislation,
— develop a penal reform strategy in line with international standards.
