Educational Background
The Consultant will possess a University Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or a related field and preferably with an emphasis on Educational School Building Design.

Professional Experience
Mandatory
• Considerable experience in the design of school buildings including various types of educational facilities.
• Experience in the assessment of design and construction of school buildings and facilities, preferably in a development country context
• Familiarity with the design, materials, construction and environmental issues related to building projects in arid and semi-arid environments
Preferred
• Ability to monitor, assess, document and report on progress
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as appropriate to the situation
• Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills.
• Capacity to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
Language Requirements
The consultant will possess excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Some facility in Arabic would be an asset

Consulting Opportunity/ Individual International Consultant
to Review and Develop
Architectural Guidelines for Government Schools
Contract no. 46 WB/2008

The Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has received a World Bank Trust Fund towards the implementation of the Education Reform for Knowledge Economy (ERfKE) I Project. It intends to apply a portion of this Fund to purchase the services identified in this advertisement.
The main objective of the required services is To review the existing architectural guidelines document and develop a revised and updated version to include drawings of typical teaching spaces included in the guideline specifications for educational facilities and spaces by providing alternatives and solutions for shapes (dimension and area) and arrangement of these teaching spaces within the requirements of the Ministry with respect to international standards for architectural guidelines and to ensure alignment with the expectations of the Ministry of Education
Detailed Terms of Reference of the assignment can be requested through the below mentioned email address.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Review current MOE architectural guidelines and the specific guidelines being used by donors/executing agencies with respect to the construction and provision of educational buildings and facilities
2. Conduct field visits to a representative sample of schools constructed and completed under the ERfKE I Program to study recently constructed learning environments and followed design requirements
3. Conduct meeting with principals/field directors, teachers and students within these schools to discuss their levels of satisfaction with the learning areas, spaces/functions and suitability as their learning environments.
4. Develop the new design guidelines in detail for the architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical standards and specifications for buildings and outdoor facilities.
5. Present new draft guidelines document to MOE staff for review, discussion and comments
6. Revise and complete the final Guidelines document and submit to the MOE

A consultant will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers published by the Bank in January 1997 and revised in September 1997,January 1999 and May 2002.
