• Civil Engineer or Architect with school construction expertise

• Environmental and quality control assessment experience
• Demonstrated experience in schools design and the general and specific requirements of education facilities and areas
• Good understanding of international quality standards with respect to school requirements, ratios, etc.
• Previous experience in construction project corrective measures
• Excellent written communication skills in English
Preferred
 Understanding of the key issues involved in the provision of schools and related facilities in the Middle East Region, or specifically in Jordan
 Ability to monitor, document, assess, and report on progress
 Excellent organizational, analytical, communication and presentation skills
 Capacity to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Excellent written communication skills in English. Arabic would be an asset

Consulting Opportunity/ Individual International Consultant
to Develop
School Maintenance System, Standards and Procedures
Contract no. 47 WB/2008

The Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has received a World Bank Trust Fund towards the implementation of the Education Reform for Knowledge Economy (ERfKE) I Project. It intends to apply a portion of this Fund to purchase the services identified in this advertisement.
The main objective of the required services will be establishing a school maintenance system that is efficient, sustainable, and affordable Detailed Terms of Reference of the assignment can be requested through the below mentioned email address.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Maintenance Consultant are expected to be as follows:

1) Assess the Current Status of the Maintenance Program
2) Identify Criteria to Collect Standardized Information on the Status of School Conditions
a. Review the existing criteria and existing procedures of the Ministry
b. Work jointly with DBIP staff to identify revised criteria to collect information on the conditions of schools.

3) Establish Audit Instruments for each Maintenance Item
4) Elaborate specific proposals for improving the efficiency of current institutional Maintenance structure as well as proposals for encouraging community and Private Sector contribution.

5) Training of core team (40 trainees)

Qualifications:

A consultant will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers published by the Bank in January 1997 and revised in September 1997,January 1999 and May 2002.
