1. This Invitation for Bids follows the General Procurement Notice for this Project that appeared in Development Business, issue no. GPN Notice No.1919820 of 17 August 2007.

2. The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has received a credit from the International Development Association toward the cost of Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds of this credit to payments under the Contract for Procurement of Pumps, Pipes, Fittings and Appurtenances for 25 Production Boreholes.

3. The Addis Ababa Water and Sanitation Development and Rehabilitation Project office now invites sealed bids from eligible and qualified bidders for the following lots:

Lot 1: Supply of Submersible pumps, Riser Pipes, Fittings and Appurtenances.

Lot 2: Supply of Surface pumps, GS pipe and Fittings and Appurtenances.

4. Bidding will be conducted through the International Competitive Bidding (ICB) procedures specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, dated May 2004 revised October 1, 2006 and is open to all bidders from Eligible Source Countries as defined in the Guidelines.

5. Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information from Addis Ababa Water and Sanitation Development and Rehabilitation Project office, Ato Getachew Dainel and inspect the Bidding Documents at the address given below from September 30, 2008, 8:30 - 17:30 local time.

6. A complete set of Bidding Documents in English language may be purchased by interested bidders on the submission of a written Application to the address below and upon payment of a non refundable fee Birr 300 (Birr Three hundred) or USD 32 (USD Thirty Two). The Bidding Documents will be sent by courier for local delivery and by Special Post for the foreign prospective bidders.

7. Bids must be delivered to the address below at or before 2.00 p.m. local time on November 19, 2008. Electronic bidding will not be permitted. Late bids will be rejected. Bids will be opened in the presence of the bidders’ representatives who choose to attend in person at the address below at 2.00 p.m. local time on November 19, 2008. All bids must be accompanied by a Bid Security:

• For Lot 1 Birr 100,000 (Birr One Hundred Thousand) or an equivalent amount in a freely convertible currency
• For Lot 2 Birr 50,000 (Birr Fifty Thousand) or an equivalent amount in a freely convertible currency
A bond issued by a surety shall be counter guaranteed by any Bank in the Purchaser Country.
